HEAD TO TOE SLOW FLOW YOGA
Head to Toe Slow Flow Yoga to Enliven and Restore
Self care can come in many forms. It doesn’t always have to look like what our minds might first think of when we vision self care. Perhaps we don’t always have time or means to spend hours giving back to ourselves. However, one myth we must bust is that self care is selfish. It is essential to give back and restore one’s self to be enlivened to continue to be of service to others.
Even if we don’t have a lot of free time, or if our schedules can be inconsistent, creating a practice around self care can start small. It can be as simple as slowing down a few times throughout the day to take a deep full belly breath. It can be closing down the eyes for a minute and stretching the neck and relaxing the face.
Today we moved through a head to toe flow to move energy through the body, synchronizing movement to breath, for more focus and presence. The movement is simple and gentle giving the opportunity to tune into the body. Where does it feels at ease, to expand upon that, and where there might be held stress, to aid in its release. Breaking up the day into little moments to tune in and move the body, out of the ordinary day to day tasks/movements, is a way to give back to yourself everyday. Perhaps some days it is only a few minutes, other days might have more space, but it becomes a practice. Checking in with yourself often, to feel into how full your cup is, so when you feel you are running towards empty, you can have the tools to restore and refuel your energy.
Explore simple movement, on a deep breath in, raise your arms above your head, on the breath out, release the arms by your sides. Repeat for several breaths. Move your hips, side bends and twists. Notice how you might be able to get out of the busy mind and for a moment, drop into caring for your body, mind, and spirit with greater awareness. There is no shame in self care! It is essential.
