HEAD, SHOULDERS, & FACE YOGA
Head and Shoulders Face Yoga and the Balance of Yin Energy
Yin energy is yielding, passive and slow. Water traits are assigned to yin. The counter balance is yang energy. In yoga, yin is assigned to gentle slow movements aiming to unlock the body and mind. Today we will begin with meditation to ground into the body, expand the breath and work with yin energy to relax the muscles of the face, neck and shoulders to assist in releasing stress from body and mind.
Take a moment to feel your body, feel the seat you are resting on. Close your eyes and relax the muscles of your face. Feel into the softness of your shoulders. Turn your head from side to side and soften one ear towards your shoulder and then soften the opposite ear to the opposite shoulder. Notice your breath. Feel it slow down and lengthen. Allow your mind to be centered on your breath. Gently massage the sides of your neck and top of your shoulders. Taking just a few moments out of each day to relax the eyes, soften the face and release the shoulders can help connect you to your yin energy. Allow yourself these precious moments to re-set your nervous system, restore inner balance and show yourself some love.
