SELF-CARE TOOLS FOR YOU
This week in our Self-Care Tuesday Group we explored the places we go when we self-assess. We looked at how to be kind and curious with ourselves versus being judgmental or moving through life with a sense of ego inflation or deflation.
Here are some questions you might want to ask yourself: Do you tend to be inflated or deflated? How do you know you are engaging with this behavior?
Awareness
When you become aware of these behavioral tendencies, you can notice them before you go too far down the rabbit hole. The opportunity is to notice, catch yourself and stop.
When you do, take a moment and realize that you are being more aware. You might also want to review your journal from the past few months to more fully give yourself credit for your personal growth.
We brainstormed the tools that have been shared in both the Tuesday and Thursday group and here is a list of them. You might want to write them down, so you have them for future reference.
Tools for you:
Press with your finger between your nose and your upper lip
Hang your finger in your ear to release stress
Hug one arm under your armpit and wrap the other arm over your shoulder when you need to calm down
Fold your hands and hold them close to your heart in order to reverse your thinking
Hold your thumb and pulse gently for 15 seconds
Use a heating pad for relaxation
Place both hands on the sides of your face to relax
Wrap your fingers around the opposite thumb and gently hold
Practice Metta Meditation, and say: may I be filled with love and kindness, may you be filled with love and kindness, may all beings be filled with love and kindness.
Take some time with this list and see what resonates for you. Practice and you will have an amazing tool kit to support you to be more present and kind.
Coming Up Next Week: The Places We Go with Others
The natural place for most of us to go with others is sympathy or empathy. These can quickly move into compassion or pity. Yet, the place many of us struggle with is appropriate boundaries. Understanding ourselves with these emotions, gives us the insights to set boundaries for ourselves more easily. Come define what those might look like for you in the safety of our Tuesday morning group.
