BECOMING THE EXPERT

What it means to become an expert on your child's Rare disease was the topic of conversation at our Women's Empowerment Circle on Tuesday. Becoming an expert takes you away from your old "normal" life and delivers you into a whole new reality that you must learn to navigate. We looked at how you can create sustainability as you tend to your life by engaging in practices that feed you.

Meditation 𓆩♡𓆪

Meditation taps you into that quiet place where you can widen the zone of peace. It sets you up for your day. Remember, meditation can happen in a brief time–even two minutes makes a difference. It can change your focus, and it helps to ground you. Meditation and prayer connect you to your intuition and to the spiritual realm which can nourish you on a soul level.

A learning curve 𓆩♡𓆪

Being a Raregiver means you are constantly learning. You are learning about your child’s Rare disease, potential treatments, medications and services just to name a few things. Let's take services for example. The powers that be might tell you about one service that is available but not about the full range of options. You have to be a detective. It may be helpful to hire someone to help you with this if you can. Either way you may feel resentful about having to become the expert about school stuff when you have already become an expert on their disease as well as needing to collaborate with a whole host of practitioners.

It can be useful to stay connected so that you have your ear to the ground. You can join Facebook groups where you might hear through the grapevine about certain services that you are eligible to receive. This is not efficient and it is the way it is at least for the moment.

Self-discovery 𓆩♡𓆪

For some Raregivers becoming an expert has been a positive experience. It may open up your life to a whole subset of people who you hadn't been aware of before you might make friends with some of the most amazing humans you've ever met, especially if you have a chance to hold the hand of the people just receiving a diagnosis. Community support is essential for you to thrive. You don't need to do it alone.

Coming Up Next Week: Acknowledging the Dramatic Change 𓆩♡𓆪

After acknowledging that your world has changed dramatically, most raregivers find themselves in a transitional state that offers the opportunity of great creativity, innovation, and renewal. You may find that you are blossoming into a different person with resilience, resources and strength you never knew you had. Who you are and who you are becoming can differ from your pre-raregiver self. Come and discover more about how you have changed and the evolutionary strength that you have cultivated.

Please Join Us for the Women's Empowerment Circle every Tuesday at 10am PST

You may not realize how much you need the Raregivers community until you find it.
