LIVING WITH AN OPEN HEART

This week our Tuesday Self-Care group had a rich conversation about the places we go when the heart is open. When the heart is open, we are vulnerable, tender, and available to being hurt as well as to being loved ever more fully. When you open your heart, you are open to deeper intimacy as well as betrayal.

Being dismissed

It can be painful to open your heart and have someone dismiss your experience as wrong or insubstantial, especially when you share something about your Rare child. Being a raregiver means that not everyone can understand your experience and sometimes they may act out of ignorance.

One possibility when you feel dismissed is to be honest and vulnerable and take a stand for the validity of your experience. Your experience is valid because it’s YOURS. It might feel like you are leaning into conflict and in actuality you are simply backing yourself up.

Acceptance

Another option is to accept that people who don’t have experience with a Rare child just cannot understand your reality. It's important to notice whether you are in integrity with yourself as you accept others. Be kind to yourself and walk with a strong back and a soft front.

Leaning in

When you lean into the uncomfortable conversations, you open yourself to deeper intimacy. It takes a lot of courage to tell the truth and stand up for yourself. Live and let live. Trust your choices and trust that others will make their choices. You might ask yourself what it would be like to live in mutual acceptance?

Coming up next week: Getting to Know Yourself and Your Core Values

In the first meeting of our new session where we will journey through the Sustainable Caregiver methodology, we will do a practice to get to know ourselves and each other more deeply. We will take the time to look within and honestly assess what really matters to us. You will have the opportunity to explore your core values and align more fully with what is true for you. Come share your truth with other Raregivers who understand you.
